200m Individual Medley (Men)

The 200m Individual Medley (Men) of the 2008 Beijing Summer Games is scheduled to be held from 8th August till 24th August, 2008. The inauguration will take place at the hands of the honorable President of China.

The 200m Individual Medley (Men) is a tough competition whereby the contender has to display four competitive strokes in the proper sequence. It goes this way: Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle. Due to its peculiarity, it is considered to be one of the toughest.

The 200m Individual Medley (Men) at the Olympics, made its first appearance in the year of 1968. A high level of practice is required before the actual competition takes place. It is because a contender has to very skillful while changing over to the next level of stroke. Some of the eminent swimmers who have set their record in this field are as follows:

  • Charles Hickcox and Michael Phelps from United States
  • Tamas Darnyi of Hungary
  • Massimiliano Rosolino of Italy
  • Attila Czene of Hungary
  • Alex Baumann of Canada
  • Gunnar Larsson of Sweden

Europe has made a great name at the Olympics 200m Individual Medley (Men). It has taken 5 gold medals back home. Tamas Darnyi of Hungary won the gold medal two times in 1988 and in 1992.
