The modern Olympics was held for the first time in 1896 at Athens. Since then, this event is held every four years. Some of the famous
host cities of Olympics are Athens, Paris, London, Moscow, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Berlin, Tokyo and Rome.
Among the
Olympic cities, Athens, Paris and Los Angeles have hosted this quadrennial event twice each. London, scheduled to host the 2012 Olympic Games, will be hosting it for the third time; having hosted it in 1908 and 1948. Athens held the first modern Olympics in 1896.
The host city for the Olympics is chosen by secret ballot. The short listed cities lobby for votes among the member nations of the International Olympic Committee.

Olympic host cities are located in Europe. The Games has been held 15 times in Europe, six times in North America, twice in Australia and Asia.
The 2008 Summer Olympics will be held in Beijing. Earlier, Tokyo (1964) and Seoul (1988) became the two Asian cities to host the Olympics Games.
