Where is North Korea?

North Korea is situated in Asia next to China, Russia and South Korea on the Korean Peninsula. On the west is Korean Bay and towards the east is Japan that is located across the sea of Japan. The capital of the country is Pyongyang. The country is officially known as Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and its supreme leader is Kim Jong-Un.

North Korea, officially called as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, is an east Asian country that constitutes the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. Pyongyang is the capital of North Korea and also its largest city. North Korea shares its border in the north and northwest with China and Russia along the Amnok (known as the Yalu in China) and Tumen rivers. To its south, the country shares its border with South Korea. The Yellow Sea and Korea Bay form the west coast of the country and on it’s eastern side is Japan, situated across the Sea of Japan.

The lat long of North Korea is 40° 0′ N, 127° 00′ E, the country is located in the northern portion of the Korean Peninsula. The total land area covered by the country is 120,540 km2 (46,540 sq mi), while 4.87% is covered by water.

The estimated population of North Korea is 25.37 million (2016) and the population density is 513.6/sq mi (198.3/sq km).

Paektu Mountain, a volcanic mountain with an elevation of 2,744 meters (9,003 ft) above sea level is the highest point in the country.
