The
Supreme People's Assembly is the
Parliament of North Korea and it is
Unicameral in nature. The
Parliament of North Korea comprises of one deputy from each of the
687 constituencies who are elected for a term of five years. The
Supreme People's Assembly is definitely the primary
legislative body of North Korea but it often delegates authority to the smaller Presidium who are chosen from among the existing members. The

Parliament of North Korea is the most powerful body in the Supreme People's Assembly and at present the President of the Presidium of the
Parliament of North Korea is
Kim Yong Nam. The previous Presidents of the Presidium of the
Parliament included:

The deputies for the
Parliament in North Korea are elected ostensibly by a secret ballot. According to the
Korean Constitution any Korean citizen above the age of 17 years, irrespective of their party affiliation, political views, or religion are eligible to be elected to the
Supreme People's Assembly. However, the elections are not at all democratic by International standards as the voters are actually presented with only one candidate for each post.
