Elections in North Korea are held every five years. The Legislature or the members of the Supreme People's Assembly are elected at a National level. Besides the Supreme People's Assembly the people of Korea also participate in the Election of the representatives to city, county, and provincial "people's assemblies". However, Elections in North Korea are completely non Competitive. There is only one contesting candidate for each office chosen by the party organization and there is no one to oppose him.
Elections of the members of the Supreme People's Assembly is usually for a period of five years. There is also an Election of a standing committee known as the Presidium by the Supreme People's Assembly. This Presidium operates as a Legislative body when the Assembly is out of Session. The Assembly also organizes an Election of the Chairman of the National Defense Commission, the Premier and the country's chief executive.
The question of Election in North Korea looses its importance because North Korea is a single-party state and the only one political party, the Workers' Party of Korea, is legally allowed to hold effective power. There are certain criterion that are to be fulfilled in order to participate in the Election of North Korea. The most important rule is the a person in order to participate in the Election needs to be a member of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland. The Democratic Front selects certain candidates for respective posts and the voters are only left to ratify it in the Elections.
