The signs of the birth of a Communist North Korea can be traced back to the colonial period. Long back from around 1920's North Korea was under the grasp of Japanese colonialism, a feeling of anti- imperialism and pro- Communism was gaining grounds in North Korea. After the Korean War the Korean Peninsula came to be divided into the North and the South and from the very inception North Korea was a Communist State.
Communist North Korea is one of the very few remaining Communist countries. The nature of Communism in the country of North Korea is not known very clearly but it is definitely not one of those success stories. Not much is known about the humanitarian massacres that happened within the Communist North Korea but it is believed that the famine that began in the mid-1990s took away at least a million lives. Communist Korea is often accused of worsening the already pathetic situation by its economic policies. The Government of the Communist North Korea is believed to have followed a policy similar to that of Stalin in the Ukrainian famine.
Communist North Korea follows a policy of Economy called Juche. The North Koreans try to produce all their needs internally without importing any thing. However, this Economic policy has not been of much help. The Juche policy has proved to be a failure and the present economic condition of Communist North Korea is not very impressive. Communist North Korea has to largely depend on donor countries for subsistence.
