The political systems were different as well for these two countries. While South Korea emerged as the Republic State, North Korea emerged as the Communist State. There followed an extensive political oppression in North Korea. This oppression gave birth to the unfortunate North Korean Refugees. Not only the political oppression was the issue behind the birth of the North Korean Refugees but also the poor economy of North Korea. A bulk of the North Korean citizens were left with starvation. And to save themselves from the haunt of starvation, many from North Korea started to flee to neighboring countries like China and Russia.
But in spite of fleeing, the North Korean Refugees rarely find peace in the countries they flee to. Some are forced to return to North Korea while a few are punished to death as well. These North Korean Refugees often risk their lives while fleeing to the neighboring countries. They are often found dead on the borders.
Few non-profit organizations like SNKR are trying to make the lives of the North Korean Refugees a better one by providing shelter and food to them.
