Korean Music

The North Korean Music has a rich tradition which dates back to the 15th century. The tradition of music in Korea follows no geographical boundary between South Korea and North Korea. The traditional and classical music of North Korea have been well preserved in fine documentation. North Korea follows the policy of Communism and henceforth they think it very 'barbaric' to import the western music in their country. North Korean Government tags the foreign music as 'jazz' and they discard them as 'untouchables' since 'it has no melody'.

Alongside the traditional and classical music the North Koreans hear to the North Korean pop music. This form of pop music is generally sung by a young female singer in front of a large audience. His North Korean pop music is generally light with optimistic notes praising Kim Jong Il or the ideologies of Communism. The North Korean music is generally sung with a propagandist approach. Their songs have harmonic and rhythmic similarities with that of the former Soviet Union and China. The military bands and men's chorus songs are much encouraged by the North Korean Government.

The instrumental songs are widely produced by the Pyongyang Film Studios. The capital of North Korea provides the center for Korean music studies. The Pyongyang Music and Dance University educates the young music enthusiasts in North Korea. The children's music centers have been set up in each provincial capital with the noble cause for educating the music learners at a tender age. The classical and traditional music in North Korea still rule in North Korea though with a few moderations.
