Korean Jerk





Korean Jerk is one of the most consumed and sought after Korean delicacy that is served in almost all Korean restaurants. Originally a traditional Jamaican meat cooking process, jerk has become famous in almost all those countries where chicken is one of the main food types.
The main attraction of jerk food is the taste which is a combination of blended spices like scallion, fresh hot pepper, onions, salt and other necessary ingredients that leave a pungent taste.

What makes Korean Jerk a popular food item is Korea is also the fact that the natural oil and aromatic contents of the recipe is very low in cholesterol. A favorite among the health conscious population, Korean Jerk is also recommended by health professionals and gym trainers. Cooking Korean Jerk is not an easy task as the authentic spices need to be brought from Jamaica. It has been popularized in Korea as a type of cooking chicken, lamb, beef, pork or sea food. Korean Jerk is an authentic way of cooking the food in a closed barbeque smoke pit over a fire pit.

Although almost all meat types can be cooked in the Korean Jerk way, Grilled Spicy Marinated Jerk Chicken is one of the favorites.
Ingredients of Grilled Spicy Marinated Jerk Chicken
  • Chicken parts
  • Vegetable oil
  • Scallion
  • Cinnamon
  • Allspice
  • English-style dry mustard
  • Garlic cloves
  • Dried thyme
  • Scotch bonnet or habanero
  • Chilies, seeded and minced
  • Bonnet Pepper Sauce
  • Soy sauce
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Bay leaves, center ribs
  • Salt
  • Sugar
The spices as well as the other ingredients have to be mixed in a blender and a marinade made. Now the chicken has to be coated with this marinade in an air tight plastic bag and marinated for a minimum 24 hours or a maximum of 2 days. The chicken then has to be grilled on oiled racks for about 15 or 20 minutes on each side. Korean Jerk now ready can be served steaming hot with special chili toppings.
