Minna

Minna is situated in the heart of Nigeria. The granite hills walls the Minna city to the eastern and also to the northern side. The city is estimated to have a population of 3,04,113 people ( Census 2007 ). Minna is the capital of the state of Niger. Kano in the northern side and Lagos and Ibadan in southern side are linked to Minna by railways.

Minna is about 150 km away from the capital, Abuja. Some of the main products of agriculture are guinea corn, cotton and ginger. Some of the other major industries of Minna are gold mining, brewing, processing of shea nut and trading of cattle. Some of the important conventional industries of Minna include metal work, leather work and weaving of cloth.


The University of Technology is located in the city. Many national and foreign students come here to take education. There are opportunities of higher education in the city as many colleges catering higher education to its students have developed here.

Minna generally experiences a moderate climate. The average temperature ranges from 24 degree Centigrade to 30 degree Centigrade. In the month of April, the temperature rises to 30 degree C. Tall Grassland is the main vegetation here. The regions near the river valleys abound in trees. Minna is near Shiroro where the biggest plant generating hydro electric power in Nigeria, is located. There is a small airport in the city.

Archaeological survey in the city suggests that the earlier human settlement goes back to 37,000 to 47,000 years ago. Minna has many Muslim mosques and establishments as a number of Muslims resides in this place.
