Ifon

Ifon is the headquarters of Os? Local Government region of Ondo state, Nigeria. It is also the seal of the region. The Ifon city lies on the Federal Junction, which lies between the Nenin city and Akore, the two cities being connected by Ifon. Ifon is located amidst serene natural surroundings. This is rather a town area where ample amounts of crops are produced. The crops produced in Ifon are exported and account for a considerable amount of the total annual income. The town of Ifon is inhabited by more than 46,000 people which is definitely much greater than the 31,000 people who lived in the region during the early 1960s.

Ifon city had been the British headquarters, and subsequently held a very important position in the administration of Nigeria.

THE IFON FOREST

The Ondo state has converted the Ifon forest to a game reserve so as to attract more number of tourists. This is a strategy to increase the annual income of the state. Much has been done by the government of the Ondo state to put an end to the uncontrolled exploitation of the flora and fauna of the Ifon forest. For this it was decided that all farmers and poachers had to be removed from the area to ensure complete security of the natural resources.
