Bauchi

Bauchi, the capital of the state of Bauchi, is a Nigerian town located at 10°19' North and 9°50' East. The town of Bauchi is accessible from the nearby cities of Jos, Kano and Maiduguri. It is not only roadways that connect these cities but also railways. The railways connect Bauchi to Kafanchan and Maiduguri. The railways are the ultimate link to Port Harcourt. The other important cities near Bauchi are Lagos, Sokoto, Gusau, Ibadan, Kano, Zaria, Kaduna and Abuja. The foundation of the Bauchi town was laid down by Yaqub Ibn Dadi, a descendant of the Sokoto empire. The emirate of Bauchi was founded by Yakubu, who was one of Dadi's commanders.

Bauchi is an important Nigerian city and also a significant commercial center. Though there may not be a wide range of choice,
the Awalah hotel and the Zaranda hotel are the two recommended hotels, which provide comfortable lodgings at nominal prices.

The Bauchi province occupies a total land area of about 21,000 square kilometers and are surrounded by the provinces of Bornu, Kano, Zarria, Nassarawa and Katagum. It lies at an average height of about 1000 feet above the sea level. The Bauchi province had once been an important zone for hunting men for supplying to the slave market. The slave hunting tradition in the area remained in existence till as late as in 1905.
