Niger Science and Technology reveals the endless aspiration of the people to unveil the unknown mysteries in scientific and technological fields. Now when the country is running though more or less sound political and social conditions, the thirst for knowledge on the part of its inhabitants finds apt manifestations in various scientific and technological researches made in the country.
The gradual yet sound development of
Niger Science and Technology depends extensively on the research works carried out in different universities and laboratories on the land. To promote such activities on large scales, scholarships, grants and financial aids are offered to the research scholars, so that researches never stop owing to shortage of funds.
Niger relies heavily upon foreign sources for technical expertise, and the French agencies in the country are especially active in this matter. The French Company for the Development of Textile Fiber, the French Institute of Scientific Research for Development and Cooperation, the Bureau of Geological and Mineral Research and the Institute of Fruit and Citrus Fruit Research all have their offices in Niamey. This makes it easier for the scientists and technologists to avoid traveling and utilize the time for more researches.
The National Institute of Agronomical Research at the
Capital of Niger, 'Niamey' has two soil-science stations at Kolo and Tarka. There is also a veterinary laboratory and a national office of solar energy in Niamey. The Livestock Service of Niger has an experimental station at Filingue in Sahelian region. This center is meant for breeding zebu cattle and goat as well as raising of poultry at Maradi. Established in 1971, the University of Niamey facilitates research works in the faculties of science, agronomy, and health services. The institutes of radioisotopes encourage research and teaching of mathematics. The day is not very far, when these creative research activities will surely confer international fame and accreditation upon the so-called insignificant, backward and poor country of Niger.
