Telica

While talking about volcanoes in Nicaragua, the first and foremost name that arises in mind is the Telica volcano. It is the most active volcanoes in the country. Telica volcano started erupting since the Spanish era and still continues to erupt occasionally. It is also a popular tourist attraction of the country.

Location of Telica

The volcano of Telica is located at 1,061 meters above the sea level in Leon province of Nicaragua. The volcano is placed at latitude of 12.60 N and longitude of 86.85 W. It is situated on the north-central portion of the volcano range of Maribios.

Features of Telica Volcano

The west face of the volcano has a bald surface due to erosion. A light stream of smoke is a constant feature of Telica. These two major features make Telica distinguishable from other volcanoes of the region. The volcano is formed of several interlocking cones and openings. A 700 meter wide double crater is situated on one of the cones of the volcano.

Telica Tour

Apart from being an active volcano Telica is also considered as a popular tourist attraction in this region. The hike tour around the eastern face of the volcano offers fascinating view of the inside walls of the crater. This tour can be approached from three different routes. The tour can take a minimum time of 3 hours and can extend up to 8 hours depending on the route.

There are several fine accommodation options available in Leon and in the village of San Jacinto, which are very convenient for the tourists.
