Santa Maria is located on the western edge of the department of Nueva Segovia, one of the northern regions of Nicaragua. The village of Santa Maria is situated on the north-eastern side of Macuelizo at latitude of 11? 56’ and longitude of -86? 17’.
Tourist Attractions in Santa Maria
- The village of Santa Maria itself is a picturesque place with small white houses of adobe walls along with roofs, which are titled.
- Cueva del Duende, a small cave located 5 km from the village is a very popular tourist destination in the region. The cave is formed of large rocks with paintings on the inside walls.
- The ancient Spanish house on the rural Spanish settlement is another tourist attraction of the region.
