Rivas is the capital city of the department of Rivas, located in the extreme south-western end of Nicaragua. The
location of Rivas is both beautiful as well as convenient. The department of Rivas is bordered by Lake Nicaragua on the eastern side and Pacific Ocean on the western side. The northern and the southern part of the region are bordered by Rio Ochomogo and Costa Rica respectively.
History of Rivas
The history of Rivas can be traced back to 606 A.D. It was an ideal location for settlement. Initially the region was inhabited by several indigenous tribes. Rivas was first visited by the Spanish people in 1522 and later in 1524. Today, Rivas is home to people from different origin, which includes Spanish, Indian, Creole and Mulatto.
