Masatepe is a municipal town in the Masaya sector of Nicaragua.
Althoug Masatepe is not visited by many, but it promises to make one's trip memorable with alluring beauty. Masatepe is a peaceful town with an active social communities and a very colorful cultural lifestyle. The Municipality of this town is established in Nicaragua's Masaya sector and it is located at almost 45 kilometers towards the northwest from the Managua city. Pan-American Highway from Managua heading towards Rivas offers the easiest and the fastest way to reach the city. There are sign boards from Catarina, which makes the route even shorter.
Masatepe was the only city formulated officially in 1996. Practically it is so ancient that no one is exactly aware of its origin. The age of the city was more or less traces by the fact that the city beholds a native name. Masatepe was founded by the aborigines of the Masatepina region. The original inhabitants of this town are the Dirianes tribe who are the native Masaya group. Thus it is evident that the area got its recognition long before any tribe resided in this place. The name 'Masatepe' literally means 'deer place' as this place was once densely populated by deer. In the early days of the city, which is almost 250 years ago, Masatepe was a prospering town with almost hundred houses and farms made of straw and thatched roof.
Deportivo Masatepe is the famous Nicaraguan football team based in Masatepe. In the present day Masatepe is a thriving economy town. The main profit is earned from the carpentry workshops and small scale business sectors. The city promises to offer every tourist excellent facilities to enjoy their holiday amidst several annual celebrations and festivities of local customs.
