Jinotega City lies in the central highlands just south of Lake Apanás, in north-central Nicaragua. Known as "the city of the mist", Jinotega is the urban center of this mountainous municipality of cool weather.


Jinotega is a lively and pleasant city of Nicaragua. Jinotega in Nicaragua is home to some beautiful high mountains, large valleys and the artificial Lake Apanas, which offers a spectacular view for the tourists to enjoy. For its varied topography, the climate of the region is quite heat and sometimes substantially cool. It is situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters above the sea level. The city of Jinotega is home to around 2,97,000 local natives and inhabitants. This region is very popular among the climbers and hikers.

Apart from its scenic beauty, the region of Jinotega is pretty convenient to get to. It is just 32 kilometers from Matagalpa city of Nicaragua. There are numerous express buses available in the city of Matagalpa to visit the city of Jinotega.

Attractions in Jinotega

Jinotega offers a lot to charm the tourists. San Rafael del Norte is an attractive spot in the region of Jinotega. It is a small village situated 25 kilometers from Jinotega. This region is famous for it forms the birthplace of some great peoples like the wife of the national hero Augusto C. Sandino and the priest Odorico D’ Andrea. This region draws innumerable tourists every year for it boasts the magnificent cathedral, the El Jaguar Reserve and the Kilimanjaro farm, which is a fabulous coffee farm. The Apanas Lake is another attraction in the city of Jinotega, which offers the tourists for kayaking in the lake. The Penas Blacas Massif is another must visit site in the region of Jinotega. This place forms a part of the Bosawas Biosphere Reserve and is home to rocky cliffs, beautiful waterfalls, gigantic ferns and various kinds of orchids.
