Jinotega is the capital city of Jinotega Department in the region of north central in Nicaragua.
Jinotega is surrounded by the picturesque mountains of Nicaragua. The city is situated in a valley, which is enveloped by tall pine-trees that cover mountains and rain forests giving a green carpet look. The city of Jinotega sprawls over a large area and is the second largest city of Nicaragua. Almost 180, 000 inhabitants and the major portion of the population live in the urban areas of the city.
The major transport means in Jinotega is the Express buses, which depart from the nearest town of Managua. One can also move to Esteli, Matagalpa and Managua from Jinotega on the same bus, but one needs to plan their trip in advance in order to avoid any inconvenience. Jinotega has a great municipal market which remains open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. Fresh food, clothing and most of the necessary goods are available in this market.
Places to dine in Jinotega is not a problem since the family owned sequel of restaurants of 'El Tico' serves local and international delicacies at quite reasonable rates. The La Colmena also serves mouthwatering gastronomical delights at a fair price. All the restaurants are hygienic and use pure water to give extra attention to healthy eating.
The accommodation options in Jinotega are many. Prominent among them is the Selva Negra, which is not far from Jinotega and offers a scope of unlimited enjoyment such as hiking, horseback riding, bird watching and sightseeing. The local hotels are El Tico, La Solentuna Hem and La Colmena.
