Nicaragua National Parks are named among the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The 78 nature reserves, wildlife sanctuaries and parks of the country cover an area nearly 21,000 sq. km. Nicaragua is full of natural as well as wildlife diversities, which attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. National Parks in Nicaragua consist of reserved rainforest of huge proportions having numerous variety of flora and fauna and wide spread biodiversity.
There are numerous Nicaragua nature reserves located all over the country. Some of the most important Nicaragua National Parks are:
- Mombacho Cloud Forest Reserve – Located on the inactive volcano of Mombacho, the Mombacho Cloud Forest Reserve features 800 species of flora and different types of fauna.
- Indio-Maiz Biological Reserve – The reserve cover the huge lowland rainforest in Nicaragua. It is home to some of the most endangered species such as anteaters and jaguars. There are more than 200 species of reptiles, 400 species of birds and 4 species of wild cats.
- La Flor Wildlife Refuge – It is a nesting site for the sea turtles. More than 30,000 olive ridley turtles nest here in the months from August to December.
- Los Guatuzos Wildlife Refuge – The wildlife park is located between Lake Nicaragua and the San Juan River. The wetland is famous for its huge conservation of numerous bird species. Caiman, sloth, monkeys and iguanas are some of the species living in this forest.
- Chocoyero Nature Reserve – Chocoyo is the most important creature living here. Deer, toucans, howler monkeys, agouti are some other animals that reside in this reserve.
Montibelli Nature Reserve, El Jaguar Cloud Forest Reserve, Isla Juan Venado Nature Reserve and Selva Negra Cloud Forest Reserve are some other important Nicaragua National Parks.
