Nicaragua Baseball is the national game and one of the most popular sports of the country. A strong influence of traditional American style baseball could be felt on the baseball of Nicaragua. During 19th century Baseball was introduced to the country. In 1888 Albert Addlesberg who was a US retailer taught baseball to the locals from Bluefields in the Caribbean coast. Since 1891 Baseball didn't catch up with the local people of Pacific coast. It was then famous among the students originating from universities of the United States.
Baseball at Nicaragua is presently boast five teams that contend amongst themselves. Chinandega, Tiburones of Granada, Leon Indios del Boer and Masaya are five major teams of Nicaragua. Players are selected from these five teams to form a national team that play at the international level. Dennis Martínez was the first Nicaragua player who contended in Major League Baseball. The major baseball venue of Nicaragua is Dennis Martínez National Stadium, which is dedicated to the name of the finest baseball player. After a series of problems,Carlos Garcia who was considered as the father of Olympic Baseball in Nicaragua reorganized it in 1970 as an amateur league.
Over the year, Nicaragua baseball has flourished at a great pace and presently it is considered to be one of the best in Central America.
