Nicaragua Languages comprises of a fusion of languages. Spanish is considered to be the official language of Nicaragua. In fact, the older generations can still speak Spanish. Spanish is even taught in schools. However, there are nine other languages spoken, which form the main category of languages in Nicaragua. Presently seven of these languages are active while three of them are still inactive.
Popular Languages of Nicaragua
Spanish, also known as Espanol, is the official language of Nicaragua. The Spanish, which is spoken in the country has a different dilect than that spoken in Spain. Thus people who can speak various form of Spanish language can comfortably communicate with the people of Nicaragua. Besides Spanish, there are seven other languages, which are widely spoken by the Nicaraguans. The seven widely spoken languages are:
- Garona - Garona, commonly known as Caribe, Black Carib or Central Carib is a Cariban language. It sounds interesting as the Garona's vocabulory is parted into terms used exclusively by men and women.
- Miskito - Miskito is another language, also known as Mosquito, Marquito or Mouito. It is a Misumalpan languge with about 20,000 people speaking .
- Nicaragua Creole English - Majority of the inhabitants of Nicaragua speak Spanish and English. Nicaragua Creole English is formed from the combination of these two languages.
- Rama - this is another popular language spoken by the people of Nicaragua. People who has the ability to speak Nicaragua Creole English also can speak Rama.
- Sumo Mayanga - This language is also referred as Sumo, Soumo, Sumoom, Sumu, Sumo Tawahka, Woolwa and Taguaca. It is also a Misumalpan language.
- Nicaragua Sign Language - This language belongs to the deaf people of Nicaragua. This is basically a new form of sign language invented by the deaf children in 1970's.
Nicaragua language is the rapid growing latin American language and is a fusion of languages due to its blend of varied rthnic community.
