Tengboche village is located in the Khumbu region. The village of Tengboche was also known as the Thyangboche in Nepal. The altitude over which Tengboche is placed measures three thousand eight hundred and sixty seven meters above the sea level, which is equivalent to twelve thousand six hundred and eighty seven feet. The Tengboche village has a very famous Buddhist monastery which is the largest gompa in the region of Khumbu.

Tengboche in Nepal is considered as the spiritual center in the country. Tengboche of Nepal serves as an important training institute for the monks in the Khumbu region. The village of Tengboche is considered to be holy for yet another reason that the Rimpoche of Tengboche lives in this region. The mountaineers to the Khumba region make it a point to stop at Tengboche in order to get blessings from the High Lama. There is an absolute prohibition in the Tengboche region.

The original monastery at Tengboche was destroyed due to a fire that broke out in the year 1989. The present monastery was constructed after that with the help of foreign aid. Tengboche at Nepal is blessed with a panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain ranges. The majestic peaks of the Everest, Nuptse, Tawache, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Lhotse are stunningly beautiful as seen through the skies of Tengboche.
