There are more than forty different kinds of ethnic genres in Nepal Music. Some of these include the folk music, the rock music and classical music of Nepal. Nepal Music, this very term refers to this large variety of genres of music in Nepal. Most of the musical bands in Nepal are found in the capital city of Kathmandu.
There is a variety of indigenous Nepalese music like the Newari music of the Newars, which plays the traditional music covering all occasions on the percussion and wind instrument since string instruments are not at all used. There is also the Khas music played traditionally by the Damai casts on special occasions, like that of marriage. Gurung music is also a very famous kind of Nepal Music played by the Gurungs. Gurung music is the first of its kind which is quite similar to the modern discos. It is then followed by the Kirant music and Tamang music. The latter one is played by the Tamang or Damphu community. A mixture of the western and Indian music can be found in the Tamang Selo music.
Other melodious types of Nepal Music include the Magar music, Sherpa music, Maithili music, Bhojpuri music. Among the genre of Imported music of Nepal, there is a combination of the Indian and the Western music. There are also many prestigious awards associated with Nepal Music namely the Annual Hits FM Music Awards and the Image Awards.
