Bahing Language


Bahing Language is also known as Rumdali. Bahing Language is spoken by approximately 2765 people across the globe. The Bahing Language is mostly used by the Bahing ethnic group in the Okhaldhunga district in Nepal. Bahing Language belongs to the Kiranti family of languages which is a sub-group of the Tibeto- Burman group.

Bahing Language belongs to the family of a number of languages like the Sino-Tibetan, Himalayish, Tibeto-Burman, Kham-Magar-Chepang-Sunwari, Bahing, Sunwari and Mahakiranti group. The language of Bahing has a very complex type of vocabulary and is similar to the Khaling language in having a synchronic ten vowel system. Bahing Language is one of the major official languages of Nepal. Bahing Language has several other names associated with it like Rumdali, Baying, Bahing Lo, Bayung, Bayung Lo, Bainge Rai and Baing.

The carious dialects present in Bahing are Namber Sacha, Khaling, Rokhung, Dobo Lo, Banenge and Proca Lo. The Khaling language of Nepal is related to the region of Sunwar. Bahing Language is mostly favoured by the younger generation in Nepal as the degree of Nepalization in the language is relatively quite low. The most famous literary work in Bahing Language is Rites of Passage: an aspect of Rai culture written by Sueyoshi Toba in 1992.
