Time in Nepal

Nepal is a small country in south Asia. Time in Nepal is almost same as the other countries in the Indian subcontinent. Time in Nepal is dependent on the latitudinal and longitudinal extent of the country. The local time in Nepal is also calculated on the same basis.

Usually, time of any country is calculated by keeping the Greenwich Mean Time as the reference time. It is from the Greenwich Meridian Line that the Greenwich Mean Time is calculated. When that information is received, it becomes very easy to calculate the local time of any place by studying the latitude and longitude of the country.

Time in Nepal is also set with Prime Meridian as its reference base. Nepal is located in the longitude, which measures 80º12’ east. 26º22’ to 30º27’ north is the latitudinal extent of this mountainous country. Keeping these two factors in mind, time in Nepal is 5.45 hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time. Nepal does not have any separate daylight saving time.

The local time in Nepal was previously 5.40 hours ahead from the Greenwich Mean Time, but it was changed to 5.45 hours in the year 1986. There are very few time zones in the world, which do not have an hour or half-an-hour offset from the Greenwich Mean Time. Nepal falls in this category of time zone.
