Pokhara University was established in 1996. It was the outcome of the Multi University concept in the country. According to this idea each university should have their individual nature, content and function. Pokhara University was the fifth university of the country. The office of Pokhara lies in Kaski district in Nepal.
The aim of the Pokhara University of Nepal is to bring in private participation in higher education and improving quality of education. It also aims at expanding the scope of higher education in the country and producing skilled human resources who will be contributing to the National development. Enhancing academic freedom in the university is also another aim of the University.
There are three faculties, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Faculty of management and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offering graduate and postgraduate and other higher degrees in different disciplines. Semester System is followed here. Bachelors in all faculties are of four years which has been split into eight semesters. Masters degrees, two year duration course are split into four semesters and M. Phil being one and half years is split into three semesters.
Around twenty two colleges are affiliated under Nepal's Pokhara University. The university has also signed the Memoranda of Understanding with a number of national as well as International Institutions.
