Monetary currency in Nepal is Nepalese Rupee which is available both in the form of coins and paper notes. Paper notes have come in vogue much later than coins. Coins too have undergone a great evolution in the materials with which they were made. Like every other country, value of Nepal currency also fluctuates, that is, the exchange rates between different countries fluctuate with time. Nepalese Denominations of rupees include notes of 1000, 500, 100, 50, 25, 20 and 10. Notes as well as coins are also available for Rs. 2, 1 and 5. Coin has not been popular in Nepal. Coins having denomination of 1paise, 5 paisa, 10 paisa, 50 paisa, and 1, 2 and 5 rupees are used in the country. In July 27th 2005, 1 US$ could buy 68 Nepalese rupees.
In Kathmandu airport different currencies can be exchanged into Money of Nepal. Currencies of different country can also be exchanged to Currency of Nepal from banks and licensed Moneychangers in the city. But it is easy to get exchange of major currencies like USD, EUR, CAD, and AUD. It is good to have a mixture of large and small denominations. Credit cash advances and withdrawals of ATMs are only Nepalese rupees.
