Nauru Transportation is primarily dependent on the sea routes .Being a small island in the Pacific, the island has to rely heavily on the sea routes and the airlines for its connectivity to the mainland.
Transportation in Nauru is made possible by virtue of its indigenous airline or the Air Nauru which offers the scope to enjoy a panoramic view of the island surrounded by innumerable coral reefs .Air Nauru has now become autonomous and acquired the status of a legal organization and is therefore known as the NAC or the Nauru Air Corporation. It has been offering regular services spanning almost a long period of twenty five years. It operates flights to and from the other islands in the adjoining region namely Tarawa, Guam, Pohnpei, Manila and Fiji. However, owing to some changes flight services to Guam, Manila and Pohnpei are in abeyance. There are flights intended for Melbourne and Brisbane .Air Nauru also has flights to Japan, New Zealand, Philippines and Hong Kong. The country has a single airport.
Ships have a major role to play when it comes to Nauru transportation. Ships are used to transport consignments from one place to another. In this way phosphate is transported to various places in the neighboring Australia and New Zealand islands. Nauru does not possess anything like a merchant navy but the task is well executed by the Nauru Pacific Line which operates a group of six ships.
The roadways of Nauru cover an area of around 30 km .Almost 80 percent of the roadways are paved .Most of the roadways are utilized to transport phosphate from one place to another. Barring a few public service vehicles like a school bus service and some private vehicles, there is hardly any other form of local transport in Nauru.
