Located in the South Pacific Ocean and a part of Oceania, Nauru is one of the three phosphate islands that are present in Pacific Ocean.
Nauru natural resources are very less. Phosphates form the most important and the only major natural resource in Nauru. Though the island contains just one mineral as its natural resource it is present in such large quantities that the economy of Nauru thrives on the mining and export of this lone mineral.
With a core that is completely made of phosphates, Nauru ranks high in the list of the regions with abundant phosphate content. The center of the island comprises a phosphate plateau that is rich in phosphates. Other Nauru natural resources include fresh water resources which exist in limited amount and other land resources which too are found in very less quantity.
The natural resource of Nauru has been exploited by the colonizers as well as by the islanders themselves for decades and such extensive mining has led to various environmental hazards. But phosphates in Nauru are the main source of the country's income.
