Namibia Sand Dunes found in the Namib Desert cover an area of about 32, 500 square kilometers .The dunes are formed due to the prolonged deposition of sand particles blown on to the lands by the winds. The dunes are characterized into two major types the barchans and the archons. The dunes keep on growing at the rate of 20 meters each year. The Walvis Bay dunes are guarded with wooden poles to prevent it from growing further.
Namibia Dunes mainly comprise of the dunes at Sossuvlei which are claimed to be the highest in the world. Situated in Namib Naukluft Park the dunes of Sossuvlei are unparalleled in the region. The dunes attain a pristine glory at dawn as the first rays of the sun fall on it. With each passing hour it assumes a different color as if donning a new garb at different hours of the day. Tourists do not miss this opportunity of capturing these rare sights and making them freeze forever. The heat during the day rises to an extreme and better be avoided.
The Sossuvlei sand dunes in Namibia are immensely popular with the tourists. Each year a large multitude flocks the region. Accommodation in Sossusvlei is provided by The Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp and the Kuala Wilderness Camp. The roads around the area are not quite well developed and the numerous pot holes making it further difficult for driving.
