Namibia AIDS is one of the major factors of concern in Namibia. According to the 1998 MOHSS survey, cases of HIV/AIDS is growing faster in Namibia compared to the other African countries.
AIDS in Namibia was first detected in the year 1986. Only four people of Namibia had AIDS in 1986. Later the rate of HIV/AIDS exceeded to 20% of the total population.

AIDS in Namibia is a matter of grave concern. The number of AIDS infected people in Namibia is gradually increasing with each passing of years. The major reason of death in Namibia is due to AIDS. 13,000 people died of HIV/AIDS in the year 2001. In the same year the number of people surviving with AIDS was 230,000.
During 1998 in many areas of Namibia HIV cases increased among pregnant women. In 1998 the rate of pregnant women affected with AIDS in Windhoek was 23 % and in Oshakati the rate was 34 %. This deadly disease is affecting the health conditions of the country in a bad way. In this respect it needs to be pointed out that AIDS in Namibia is affecting the urban population more than the rural areas. 50 percent deaths in the age group of 15 to 49 are caused due to HIV/AIDS in Namibia. 75 % people who are hospitalized in the public sector hospitals of Namibia are affected by AIDS.
Sexual transmission and mother-to-child transmissions are the main reasons behind the AIDS of Namibia. Various programs have been undertaken by international organizations and the Namibian government to educate people about the causes and spread of the deadly virus of AIDS. People are being educated about how to avoid this contagious disease.
