Namibia Women are the integral part of the Namibia society. Namibia women are no more discriminated on the basis of gender and presently they share equal space in terms of power and decision making. The Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) has engaged women in agricultural subsistence and the women of Namibia constitutes of 30% to 60% of the agricultural association.
The women in Namibia carry out the domestic and agricultural chores with equal expertise. Women and men both participate in land tilling and take active part in ploughing, harvesting and threshing. Men look after the herding and marketing of livestock whereas women take care of food processing section. The decision making power of women varies in each household and women makes joint decisions with other family members.
The Department of Women Affairs was formed in 1990, just after the Independence of Namibia. The Namibia constitution guarantees similar rights for women in Namibia. Several gender training and research programs came into forefront to eradicate all the issues related to women discrimination and they are run by the collaboration of the University of Namibia. This research program regularly conducts training sessions for the government personnel, NGO s and even to the private sectors. In health related matters, malnutrition is a common problem seen among the women of Namibia. Steps are being to overcome this problem.
The economic and social status of the Namibia women has upgraded a lot presently. The constant efforts of the Namibian organizations promise to uplift the social status of Namibia women in the coming times.
