Adolph Jentsch

Adolph Jentsch is one of the famous painters of Namibia. He was a very skillful and talented artist.

Adolph Jentsch was born in the year 1888 at Dresden in Germany. In the year 1977 he expired in Windhoek. Adolph Jentsch studied for a period of six years at Dresden. For traveling to countries like Italy, France, UK and The Netherlands he made use of a travel grant award.

For eluding the upcoming war in Germany, Adolph Jentsch went to Namibia in the year 1938 and lived there till his death.

Adolph Jentsch extensively painted the landscapes of Namibia. He used water color and oil painting. Adolph Jentsch had a great interest in Oriental Philosophy. Chinese Art had an eminent influence on him.

Adolph Jentsch received many awards in his lifetime and some of the most prestigious awards include Koniglich-Sachsische Staatsmedaille fur Kunst und Wissenschaft in 1913, Order of Merit, First Class, Federal Republic of West Germany in 1958 and Medal of Honour for Painting, SA Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns in the year 1962.

Many exhibitions were held by Adolph Jentsch. Pretoria Art Museum, Rembrandt van Rijn Art Foundation, University of Stellenbosch, Pretoria University, Johannesburg Art Gallery, S.A Association of Arts in Windhoek, Rand Afrikaans University in Johannesburg, Hester Rupert Art Museum in Graaf-Reinet, etc. are the places where Adolph Jentsch put up his exhibition.

In the year 1973 five paintings of Adolph Jentsch was procreated as stamps. Orde Levinson procreated many paintings of Adolph Jentsch. Adolph Jentsch has made Namibia proud with his excellent paintings.
