Located in the Southern part of the Continent of Africa, there are a number of
Mozambique Regions and cities. Maputo is the capital of Mozambique and the
Mozambique Regions and cities are clubbed into ten Provinces. The Provinces are again divided into 129 Districts which are further sub- divided into "Postos Administrativos"(Administrative Posts) , followed by Localidades (Localities).
Mozambique Regions
The ten Provinces are grouped into three Regions, They are:
- Northern Mozambique: This Region includes the Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa provinces
- Central Mozambique: This Mozambique Region includes the Provinces of Manica, Sofala, Tete and Zambézia.
- Southern Mozambique: The Provinces of Gaza, Inhambane and Maputo make up this region.
The Southern Region is the most important region of Mozambique as it includes Maputo, the Capital city. The Province of Gaza with Xai-Xai as its capital is an important tourist destination. The Tete Province is a vestige of the colonial past of Mozambique and it is still apparent from the very look of the Province. Agriculturally the richest, the Zambézia Province is the most populated in the region. A complete contrast to the Province of Zambézia, Niassa Province is dry and has a thin population.

There are a number of Cities in Mozambique. These cities are located at reasonable distances and often it takes a day, rather than hours, to travel from one Mozambique city to the other. The most important Mozambique cities include:
