WHO and Mozambique

Mozambique is a member country of WHO. WHO and Mozambique share close relationships between them as far as health related problems are concerned. WHO or the World Health Organization provides all possible supports to this African country on the health related matters. The epidemics mainly disrupt the mortality and morbidity rates of Mozambique. WHO in Mozambique provides an alert on these epidemics. This kind of alert helps the country to take precautions against any acute or sudden outbreak of diseases.

On March 23, 2004, WHO and Mozambique experienced an outburst of Cholera. The Health Affairs Ministry presented a report of 15237 cases. A total of 83 death cases were also mentioned from December 20 – March 18, 2004. Cholera affected the provinces of Gaza, Maputo, Nampula, Sofala, Tete, Inhambane and Zambesia. The most affected region was Maputo where the death toll was nearly 37 and all total 9522 death cases were reported from all corners of the country. However, WHO with other UN agencies supported the health agencies in checking the Cholera outbreak in Mozambique.

On January 28, 2004 an outbreak of Cholera was again reported in Chad. The health ministry reports said that there were 131 cases of the disease and total 11 deaths were recorded. WHO supported the local health officials in controlling cholera's outbreak in the country. On June 16, 2003 Mozambique again had an outbreak of Cholera. WHO assisted the national health officials in the provinces of Gaza and Sofala where 29 and 14 death cases were reported from January 1 – 15 June 2003.

On May 21, 2003 WHO got documents of total three outbreaks of cholera in many parts of Mozambique. Sabie province was the most worst influenced district. Other provinces were Sofala, Maputo and Gaza.

WHO and Mozambique have a long lasting relationship on health-related grounds.
