Mozambique malaria is an endemic disease that kills many people every year. Plasmodium Falciparum is one of the most frequent and serious species of malaria in Mozambique. Due to malaria about 2.7 million people die every year. Most number of death cases are noted in Africa. Plasmodium Falciparum is one of the four kinds of malaria found in the world. The other species are Plasmodium Vivax, Plasmodium Malariae and Plasmodium Ovale.
Mozambique Malaria is a common disease of the country and it is detected in every regions. The travelers visiting this country are suggested to take prophylaxis for precaution. About 90% of the world's cases of malaria take place in Africa itself. The primary cause that affects the rates of morbidity in Mozambique is malaria.
Attempts are being taken to set up precautionary measures within the group of people. A comprehensive analysis of the effect of malaria in some of the selected districts of Southern Mozambique was executed in 2003 (August – September).
It has been estimated that in sub Saharan African countries in every two minutes three children die due to malaria. In the year 1997 about US $ 1.8 - $ 2 billion was spent on the prevention of malaria. In Mozambique, malaria is one of the biggest burdens for pregnant women and for children below 5 years.
From 1960s measures are being taken to control the disease. In 1999, Roll Back Malaria commenced its activities among the communities to prevent this serious disease. Roll Back Malaria is a global partnership among UNDP, UNICEF, WHO and the World Bank.
