Imperialism in Mozambique

Imperialism In Mozambique may have more than one connotation; to some it may mean simple annexation of foreign lands and to others, it may also mean invading a country to satisfy certain interests on political, economic and other such grounds. It is generally seen that Imperialism In Mozambique centers mainly around economic interests, which ultimately culminates into warlike situations.

War played a great role in Mozambique. The wars mainly took place from aggression or personal anger and always had an objective to hide the economic interests.

As we all know Wars take a lot of planning, monetary assistance and armed forces, they naturally reflect the ability of policy making of the respective country.

One of the bloodiest recent wars that had been held in Mozambique occupied a prominent position in world history.

In 1974 the national-liberation movement Frelimo, meant for independence and socialism, took power in Mozambique, just after the rebellions took place in Portugal's African colonies.

Frelimo was initially committed to the removal of poverty, illiteracy and lack of skills and underdevelopment.

But finally the war begun when a group called Renamo started to demolish villages and rural-development programs.

Renamo killed many peasants and forcibly took young boys into their homicidal army.

The murderous motive of those Renamo was probably the capitalist greed and since they have a racist ideology they did not faced any problem to take this cutthroat approach.

Besides this there are some others who deserve mention while talking about the Mozambique Imperialism.Houston-based Enron firm is probably one among them.

Its executives wanted Mozambique to go for a contract permitting Enron to develop and market a huge reservoir of natural gas at Pende.

Since, Minerals Minister John Kachamila objected, the Embassy of the United States disagreed to withdraw aid to Mozambique.

But soon after that same United States government held a campaign supposedly to advance human rights in Africa.

Though imperialism caused a great harm to Mozambique but it is trying hard to come out those grave conditions that has so long created an obstacle in the way of development.
