Mozambique Flood affected the entire country and has been marked as one of the most tragic disaster that the country of Mozambique has underwent till date. The Mozambican flood was a natural disaster that took place during February and March, 2000. This ruinous flooding was caused due to heavy rainfall which lasted for five weeks and caused Mozambique rivers to break their banks. Around two million people were affected badly by this incessant downfall, roughly 25,000 civilians lost their home and approximately 800 had been killed, around 1,400 km˛ of cultivated land was affected and 20,000 (roughly) head of cattle were lost. It is considered to be the worst natural calamity in Mozambique in 50 years.

The Mozambican Flood started on 9th February with rapid precipitation across South Africa. Southern Botswana and Swaziland were also been affected by it. Mozambique faced the maximum rainfall, the capital Maputo was also being washed out along the road connecting the capital and the second largest city, Beira. Torrential rain kept going till the 11th, February, in Mozambiques Limpopo Valley. The banks of the Limpopo River burst out, causing a severe damage. The residents had to face dysentery as a result of this flood.

On 22nd February, when tropical Cyclone Eline struck the Mozambique coast the situation worsened. On 27 th February, Flood in Mozambique washed out the low farmlands around Chokwe and Xai-Xai.

The agricultural area was also been highly damaged due to the heavy downfall. Around 1,400 square kilometres of cropped and grazing land was lost, as well as every major valley of Beira was also severely affected by the overflowing of river water.

Schools were closed, health centres were ruined and government had to take a major step to improvise the condition.
