Angola and Mozambique are the two countries in Africa. both of these former Portuguese colonies, are often been compared in terms of their economic and potential growth. Since both the countries underwent severe destructive warfare they are trying hard to come out of this grave situation and are currently rebuilding themselves in order to improvise the basic economic infrastructure that was almost being ruined at the time of war. On the ground of colonial heritage, there are several experiences and historical legacies that both the countries share. But still they have numerous differences that have major significance.
While talking about the similarities we should not miss out to say that both of Angola and Mozambique shares the similar nature of the colonial administration that had been imposed upon them.
The Portuguese for many years did not attempted to settle the land or to control it directly. There is one respect in which Portugal and its colonies differed substantially.
In the area of agriculture also, both Mozambique and Angola underwent several major differences. Both Angola and Mozambique, are self-sufficient in food production, though the resource bases of the two countries are different.
Currently those above discussed countries are highly dependent on food imports, but before independence Mozambique was a food importer while Angola was a food exporter.
On the other hand, while talking about independence and internal conflict, we must mention that Independence in Angola and Mozambique was an indirect result of long-standing liberation movements that had been active in each country.
