Mozambique Capital

After the independence of Mozambique from Portugal on 25th June in the year of 1975, Maputo was declared officially as the Mozambique Capital. The Mozambique Capital is the largest city of Mozambique. Maputo is a port on the Indian Ocean and the economy depends a lot on the activities around the harbor. The geographical features of the Mozambique Capital offer lots of delight for the sea loving tourists. Maputo stands on the western part of the Maputo Bay at the origin of the Tembe River. The bay stretches for 95 kilometers long and 30 kilometers wide. Into the southern end of the bay, the Maputo River discharges.

The Mozambique Capital is surrounded by the Maputo Province, though its own province takes the responsibility of its administration. The 1997 official record says that the Mozambique Capital population is approximately 966,837. The export materials that keep the harbor busy throughout include coal, sugar, cotton, chromite, copra, sisal and hardwood. The scenario of the industry in the Mozambique Capital is showing good signs as well. There is a big list of manufacturers who have invested in the making of cement, rubber, shoes, furniture and pottery in the Mozambique Capital. The aluminum smelting plant in Maputo that is contributing a lot in the economy is Mozal.

The tourism in the Mozambique Capital is promoted as well. The train station at Maputo is a wonder to watch. In the early 1900s, it was built by Eiffel (who is renowned for the tower in Paris). The train station has recently been renovated to attract the tourists. After the renovation, it has taken the shape of a palace.
