Morocco Customs




Morocco Customs affect all aspects of popular life in the country, especially the existence of the remote communities who are still considered backward and need to be enlightened
through proper education and learning. In a country where majority of the population are followers of Islam, Morocco customs are of immense importance in the sense that this particular religious community are very meticulous and specific about obeying and observing every single part of these customs.

A handful of customs in Morocco are closely associated with the religious beliefs and notions of the land. The common Islamic practice of calling to prayer several times a day is one such custom. The fasting of the Muslims from dawn till dusk in the sacred months of Ramadan reflects their faith over the religion. Though commercial in nature, yet the system of closing down the shops in Moroccan towns for shorter periods during daytime and evenings in the Ramadan months are worth mentioning. This is because the Ramadan followers utilize this time in having their meals, even accepting commercial loses.

Emancipation of the womenfolk is well recognized in the country, where they move about freely without veiling their faces, and take active part in all spheres of activities. Yet non-Moroccan women residing in the country are required to follow some Moroccan Customs like wearing traditional attires and avoiding short swimming costumes openly. Moreover, the Moroccan Marriage Customs are also important part, where the bride is bathed ceremonially five days before her wedding and painted with henna. Together with many more such Wedding Customs in Morocco, they actually remind one of the disciplined and spiritual mentalities of the Islamic community at large.
