The history of Sale's origin is beset with contradiction. While some traditions hold that the city was set up by Moulay Idris I towards the end of 8th century, others believe that Moulay Idris II laid the foundation of Sale Morocco. Historians, however, hold that it was the Berber Bani Ifrans tribe under the leadership of Abou Al Kemal Temin, which founded Sale in Morocco. The city of Sale at Morocco is believed to derive its name from 'asla', a Berber word meaning 'rock'.
Sale of Morocco is an important port city of the country. There are several industries situated in Sale Morocco. These include cork processing, fish canning, flour milling, ceramics and carpet weaving.
The modern day city of Sale has become an extensive 'dormitory town' with very little community life. The majority of the population of the region is dominated by the poor factory workers. The remnants of the historical architecture and craftsmanship are dilapidating and the city has an increasing pollution level.
