AS Monaco is one of the most popular football clubs in France. The club is in Monaco. But it participates in the prestigious French League right from the beginning. The club was founded in 1919. Stade Louis II is the home ground of AS Monaco. The official name of the club is Association Sportive de Monaco Football Club. The fans call the players “Red and whites”. AS Monaco is certainly one of the successful clubs in France.
The AS Monaco club was the finalist in the 2004 UEFA Champions League. But they have never won this prestigious title. Initially the club had to face some serious criticism for their identity, but as the time went on, the club won the hearts of the Frenchmen with their exciting game play.
The club was facing some problem regarding the number of spectators a couple of years back. The home stadium has 18,500 seat arrangements and the seats were not filling up. But now the problem doesn’t exist and AS Monaco is again one of the clubs with highest number of spectators in France. They won the French Championship 7 times and are a five times winner of the French Cup. In 2002-03 they won the French League Cup. They were also the runner-up in 1991-92 “European Cup Winners Cup”.
The current AS Monaco team has only a few star players, they believe in team game. Plasil, Kallon, Koller, Merium are some of their major players. This year they sold Yoyo Toure to Barcelona. Di Viao and Givet also left the club. The manager is excited with his team with a perfect balance of youth and experience. They are optimistic about grabbing this year’s French league.
