The Monastery in Tipova Village is on the rocky side of the river Nistru. It is not just the biggest cave monastery but also the oldest one. This monastery was formed long before the feudal state of Moldova. A group of monks in search for peace established this monastery. The monastery was separated in 1776 into two large parts. During the oppression by the Russians, the monastery was closed and destroyed.
But it opened after the independence of Moldova and since then, it is considered as a property of the state and now it is protected as well as maintained by the government of Moldova. Another legend says the famous mythological poet Ortheus spent his last few days here on these hills and was buried in a corner of a waterfall here. The tourist can enjoy the "Tipova" nature reserve as well. Here used to be a Geto-Dacian fortress and the place still bears some signs of the fortress. Tipova Village is a wonderful place for a days outing in Moldova.
