Moldova people are the most-known for their hospitality. They are very friendly and kind. This European country covers an approximate population of around 4,440,000. People of varied ethnic groups reside in Moldova. Ethnic Moldavians comprises around 64, 5% of local population. It is seen that in the center and north of the Republic their number is greater.
Other large ethnic groups are Russians and Ukrainians who migrated to Moldova after World War II and settled mainly in its cities. The other ethnic groups residing in Moldova include Bulgarians, Gagauz and Jews.
On the other hand, in the late 18th century Gagauz or Turkic (Christian people) came to Moldova. Along with them Bulgarians also came to the Republic. These two groups inhabited the Southern part of Moldova, mainly covering the rural areas, whereas Jews reside in the urban areas.
There are several languages spoken in Moldova. However, Moldovan is the official language of the nation. It is actually the dialect of Romanian.
The other language that acquired high recognition in Moldova is Russian. This language has occupied a prominent position due to the long-lasting influence of Soviet Union.
In Moldova Christianity predominates. Around 96 percent of the population belongs to the Eastern Orthodox Church.
Moldova again claims to have the rate of 100% adult literacy. Education is mandatory for children between 6-17 years of age.
While talking about the Moldova People we should also mention about their culture. They are said to have a rich folk culture that flourished during the Soviet period. An ancient folk ballade 'Miorita' occupies an eminent position in Moldovan folk culture. Added to this they also have folk traditions of ceramics and weaving, currently which are more practiced in the rural areas.
