Moldova Culture, primarily influenced by the Romanian origin reflects the taste and likings of the Moldavians. The roots of the Romanian culture dates back to the 2nd century A.D. Again in A.D. 271, the centuries following the Roman withdrawal, the entire nation was influenced by the contact with the Byzantine Empire and afterwards the Ottoman Turks. On the other hand, with the beginning of the nineteenth century, a West European influence became evident in Romanian literature.
By the fourteenth century the regional population started identifying itself widely as "Moldovan", and maintained intimate cultural ties with other Romanian groups. The eastern Moldavians, especially those who were residing in Bessarabia and Transnistria, were influenced by Slavic culture of neighboring Ukraine. Again during the periods 1812-1917, and 1944-1989, the eastern Moldovans got affected by both the Russian and Soviet administrative governance and ethnic Russian immigration.
