The Republic of Moldova got its independence from the Soviet Union On August 27, 1991. In a parliamentary representative governmental system,
Moldova Prime Minister plays the leading role. The Prime Minister of Moldova is also the head of the multi party system. Moldova Prime ministers since 1990 include:
- Mircea Druc became the prime minister of Moldova on 26th May 1990 and worked up to 28th May 1991
- Valeriu Muravschi who became the prime minister of Moldova on 28th May 1991 and continued to hold the post till 1st July 1992
- Andrei Sangheli joined as the Prime minister of Moldova on 1st July 1992 and worked up to 24th January 1997
- Ion Ciubuc became the prime minister of Moldova on 24th January 1997 and occupied the post upto 1st February 1999
- Serafim Urechean became the leader of the Moldovan government on 5th February 1999 and continued to hold the post till 17th February 1999
- Ion Sturza became the prime minister of Moldova on 19th February 1999 and worked till the year 1999, 9th November
- Dumitru Braghis also became the Prime minister of Moldova on 21st December 1999 and worked up to 19th April 2001
- Vasile Tarlev is the present Prime minister of Moldova who joined the post on 19th April 2001 incumbent
The
prime minister of Moldova is also the head of the cabinet or the Council of Ministers who directs the activities of the government. The president of Moldova nominates the prime minister and also on the recommendation of prime minister she or he nominates the members of the Council of Ministers. In the year 1995 in this prime minister headed Council of Ministers there were eighteen ministries like: foreign affairs, health, industry, commercial services and housing, agriculture and food, economy, culture, defense, education, finance, information and communication, interior, justice, labor and social and family protection, national security, parliamentary relations, transportation and road assistance, privatization and administration of state property.
