The history of Moldova deals with the historical facts of two regions Bessarabia and Transnistria which have united to become a country. Situated in between the Prut and Nistru rivers, Bessarabia comprises the eastern portion of the country Moldova. Transnistria, on the eastern bank of the River Nistru is a Romanian name for the land. The Romanians form the majority of the population of these two regions.
