The Republic Of Moldova is a small inland country. The Republic of Moldova is an eastern European country surrounded by Romania in the west and Ukraine in the south, north and east. In the year as early as 1812 the Principality of Moldova was captured by the Russian empire. After the disintegration of the Russian empire, Moldova was united with Romania in the year 1918. In 1940, Moldova was captured by Soviet Union. From the period of 1941 till the period of 1944 during the 2nd World War Moldova was known as Moldavian SSR. On 27th of August, 1991, Moldova declared its independence from Soviet Union.
The Moldavian Republic follows the political ideal of being a Parliamentary democracy. The President is the head of the Republic of Moldova. The head of the government is the Prime Minister. The Parliament of Moldova is unicameral which holds one hundred and one members. The Parliament of Moldova is the sovereign legislative body of the state of Moldova. The members of the Parliament are elected every four years by the votes of the people. The President appoints the head of the Government, the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister then appoints all the ministers of the Cabinet. Numerous political parties operate in Moldavian political scene. They include, Democratic Forces Party, Party of Renaissance and Conciliation, Communists Party, Liberal Party, Social democratic party and many more.
The economy of the Republic of Moldova is mainly based on agriculture, industry and natural resource. The major agricultural productions are vegetables, tobacco, fruits, wine and others. In natural resource lignite, gypsum and limestone are famous. In the industrial sector washing machines, oil, food, sugar, textiles, shoes, refrigerator, and other hosiery industries are worth mentioning. The export partners are Italy, Ukraine, and Russia. Italy, Romania, Russia and Turkey are the main import partner of Moldova.
